What is Messy Church?
Messy Church is a Sunday afternoon service for children and adults of all ages. It is an all-age expression of church in which families come together to be, to make, to eat and to celebrate God.
Having formerly taken place at Elmtree School, it has now moved to the St Mary’s Church Rooms.
In Spring 2018 it is running from 4 to 5:30pm on the following Sundays:
- 21st January
- 18th February
- 18th March
- 15th April
What happens at Messy Church?
Messy Church is all about families having a fun, noisy and messy time together as we learn about Jesus. Each time there is a theme that brings everything together. For the first 45 minutes or so, there are crafts and games to do together. Then we have a short time of singing, prayer and a Bible story. After that we finish with tea altogether.
Where is it?
Messy Church happens in the Church Rooms at St Mary’s on Church St. The Church Rooms are just next to the road at the bottom of the driveway that leads up to St Mary’s. Parking is available on Sundays at the Bury on Church St (first right after St Mary’s as you head out of Chesham). For more directions, see here.
Do we need to bring anything?
No. Food appropriate for children will be provided, though we can’t promise to cater for very specific dietary requirements so get in touch if you’re not sure.
Does it cost anything?
No – it’s free.
Who can come?
Anyone at all is welcome at Messy Church. It is particularly appropriate for children under the age of about 11 with their parents or carers, but over-11’s often love to join in by helping younger children with the craft, games and activities – they need not feel excluded at all. All under-18’s need to come with an adult.
